WHAT IS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)?
While the exact cause of depression is unknown, the leading scientific theory is that it is caused by an imbalance of the brain’s neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells.
During a NeuroStar treatment session at Travco, a magnet is used to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain thought to control mood. The magnet is similar in strength to that used in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. These magnetic pulses may positively affect the brain’s neurotransmitter levels, making long-term remission possible.
Travco's Boardman location is one of the few area facilities that offers NeuroStar Advanced Therapy. Covered by more insurance plans, NeuroStar treatment typically takes only 19-37 minutes and is administered five days a week for approximately four to six weeks.
