Recovery
At First Step Recovery, we care more. In this Staff Spotlight interview, you’ll learn about Kerri Donchess and what inspires her to provide compassionate care.

Tell us about your background/experience.

I have over 20 years of experience in physician credentialing and medical records along with human resources job duties. I joined First Step Recovery on October30, 2017. In my role as Compliance Manager, I conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to CARF standards, maintain policies and procedures and facilitate credentialing for our providers—along with other human resources job duties. I am also currently in the process of completing a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration degree from University of Phoenix.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love what First Step Recovery represents.  I enjoy everyone that I work with, I have made true friendships in my journey here.

What experiences inspired you to work in the substance abuse treatment field?

I have five and a half years in recovery myself and it is a passion of mine to know that I have a part in helping other individuals struggling with this disease. It is important to me to be an example of what you can accomplish when in recovery.

What is your advice for someone who might be hesitant about seeking treatment?

Don’t leave until the miracle happens. It may not happen in your first attempt, but do not beat yourself up for it. We are our own worst enemies…practice using positive affirmations instead of buying into negative thoughts.

What is your favorite movie about substance abuse?

I have a couple. I really enjoyed My Name Is Bill W., which is about the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous and When a Man Loves a Woman, about the relationship struggles of a husband and wife that occur due to alcoholism.

If you or a loved one could benefit from substance abuse treatment, contact First Step Recovery today! Or, if you’re interested in working at FSR, you can apply for career opportunities here.
