First Step Recovery Announces New Relapse Prevention Program

News
Learn about the details of our new Relapse Prevention Program in this Q & A with First Step Recovery’s Supervisor of Outpatient Services, Adam Remington, MSW, LSW, LICDC.

Our new co-ed Relapse Prevention Program reflects our continued commitment to providing a variety of addiction treatment services to meet our clients wherever they’re at in their recovery journey.

Why was the Relapse Prevention Program created? Who is eligible to participate?

We see this program as a buffer between relapse warning signs and relapse. The program was originally designed for individuals struggling with a general understanding of addiction and relapse who may not qualify for (or need) general intensive outpatient services. However, it’s also open to clients who are currently engaged in IOP or Aftercare, have peer support and/or are looking to bolster their recovery with further education and guidance.

How does this program benefit clients?

In our new Relapse Prevention Program, clients benefit from recovery education, improved self-awareness and increased accountability. Participants in the program learn about factors that contribute to relapse and identify (and address) their own individual triggers. They develop an action plan to utilize when “warning signs” arise. The program also provides accountability through drug screens and support from peers. Additionally, the program offers individual counseling for members to continue to monitor progress and evaluate treatment goals.

When does the program take place? Who leads the program?

Starting as a once-a-week program, we meet on Thursday mornings from 9:00–10:30 am. Open to males and females, with a 12-client maximum, the Relapse Prevention Program is led by Amber Mowen, MS, Licensed Professional Counselor. A First Step Recovery team member for the last six years, Amber performs a vital role in our outpatient services and she’s excited to connect with clients who are motivated for change.

Since First Step Recovery opened in 2014, we’ve worked hard to address and adjust to recovery needs within our community. We’re excited about the new Relapse Prevention Program, which provides much-needed support in building a strong recovery foundation.
